Pheromone is a monitoring device with a adhesive base on a cardboard pad designed for moth monitoring and control. Moth pheromone pads are for a specific species of moth to allow users to understand the size and location of any active population and also the emergence of any new infestations; at present we sell 2 variants of moths pheromone within the UK: Common clothes moth & Indian meal moth. Except for a few moths with similar pheromone structure, the pads will not attract any other species of moth so it’s important that the moth is correctly identified before application of the product.
Placement of the pheromones will vary depending on the type of moth you have and also the location but as a rough rule if you have common clothes moth placement within wardrobes, drawers and under furniture is the generally recommended areas and for Indian meal moth placement within cupboards, pantry rooms and behind cupboard plyths will likely result in capture. Re-locating devices around a room is sometimes required to allow for improved capture rates; also please note that moths can be found anywhere so temporary placement of pheromone under floorboards, in attics or other rooms may bring in surprising results.
Pheromone pads are designed to be used within plastic hangers; these allow the pads to be placed in locations such as wardrobes or other enclosed areas with ease and without risk of unnecessarily getting stuck on clothing etc. Pads however can be used without the holders.
What are pheromone pads and are they required?
Pheromone mimics the sexual attraction of a female moth to entice the adult males toward a sticky pad containing a powerful adhesive that prevents moths from escaping once they have landed; the pheromone is pre-mixed into the adhesive. By catching the male moths you are reducing the likelihood of reproduction and limiting population growth.
By placement of the pads within the areas of activity the user understands the size and location of the population, this is extremely helpful to that users can use and direct any treatments to be more effective. Pheromone pads are also useful during and after any treatment as an indicator of how successful any treatment.
Pheromone pads are not required but they will be extremely helpful in aiding any infestation control and catching adult male moths as they emerge from the larval stages.
Does it control an infestation?
Depends. For small or emerging infestations the percentage of interrupting the lifecycle is greatly increased as available adult moths are removed from any breeding opportunity; for this reason, pheromone pads are a great long-term method of control. For larger or established infestations the likelihood of control is extremely limited and overall control unlikely; pheromone pads are recommended more as part of a larger treatment plan that includes insecticide products.
Available pheromones:
Common Clothes Moth Pheromone Pads
Tineola bisselliella
Our common clothes moth pheromone is an extremely popular pheromone used throughout the UK pest industry, both in domestic and commercial environments. Placement of pheromone is an important step in the removal of textile moths as it helps the users understand the location of the active populations, which often can go unnoticed for several years.
Indian Meal Moth Pheromone Pads
Plodia interpunctella
Indian meal moth pheromone is an essential device within areas of moth infestation to highlight areas of activity and to stop emerging populations after a treatment; by the placement of pheromone within at risk of areas such as a food cupboard any active male moth will be attracted to the pad and likely heavily reduce the likelihood or moth re-emergence
Plastic trap holders
Whilst not a pheromone the holders are an important device that should accompany the above pheromone pads; they are made specifically for holding the pads within areas such as a wardrobe and the slim design allows placement under heavy furniture including sofas and wardrobes.
Available in clear and blue. Whilst clear is the most popular choice blue is the recommended hanger for use within food processing sites for identification purposes.
Entopest holders are designed and manufactured in the UK
