An alternative to insecticide powder is our insect-grade diatomaceous earth powder product; a natural and organic powder formed from fossilised fossils. The individual particles of diatomaceous earth when looked under a microscope show razor sharp edges; when insects come into contact with the product, their outer skeleton skin is ripped open which results in rapid dehydration and death. A benefit of diatomaceous earth is that insects can not become resistant; a common issue with insecticide alternatives.
Whilst diatomaceous earth is considered a wonder product it is not instant, and the time undertaken to control an infestation can be lengthy; we always recommend that this type of treatment is used as part of a greater multi-treatment approach with diatomaceous earth used to complement any existing treatments as well as a long-term prevention method.
The main beneficiary of this product is that it is harmless to humans and pets; this allows the user to apply the product more liberally or placement in areas that may be more sensitive such as around animals or within a child’s bedroom. It is important to note that our diatomaceous earth is insect-grade and NOT food-grade which is a common product often found in shops.
Where do I apply the powder?
We recommend that placement is undertaken directly to the areas of infestation or areas that moths or their larvae may communicate. Diatomaceous earth is best used as a long-term preventative measure and should be placed in areas away from regular cleaning such as under heavy furniture or when possible under carpets.
Diatomaceous earth should be lightly applied rather than placed in clumps of powder; insects may detect the product and are more likely to avoid it when possible. Powder is best applied using a handheld dust applicator or sprinkled over the area, and a fine brush is applied to spread the material finely over the treatment area. Alternatively, diatomaceous earth can be mixed with water and sprayed; this can be particularly handy when applying products to areas that are irregular or to the underside of furniture, plants etc.
Does it control an infestation?
Treatments using diatomaceous earth are not instant and it’s important to understand the limitations of the product. The answer is yes to the control of an infestation, but treatments will take significant time compared to insecticide alternatives; this is a natural and organic product that has considerable advantages, especially when used around children and pets. Diatomaceous earth requires correct placement within areas of activity to work best and this may require users lifting carpets or moving heavy objects to gain direct access.
As previously mentioned diatomaceous earth is best used as a complimentary product to insecticides aswell as a reliable long-term prevention method for new and emerging activity. Diatomaceous earth can be used on all types of insects including moths, ants, wasps, bedbugs and cockroaches.

Entopest Pest Grade 1Kg
Entopest insect-grade diatomaceous earth is an organic powder used to treat crawling and flying insects. Once applied, the product offers a safe treatment method for many insects, including bed bugs, ants and moths. The powder is harmless to humans and can be used safely around children and pets.
The product can be used directly from the container or, if preferred, diluted with water to create a surface spray. For best results, diatomaceous earth should be applied finely within areas of insect activity, focusing on voids, cracks and crevices. Direct treatments of nests will result in faster control
This product is insect-grade and not meant for human consumption. Diatomaceous earth is not a fast-acting solution for insect control.
